A Malibu Kind of Christmas - Malibooz Yule (1992)

1. "Santa Drives A Super Stock Dodge" Written by: John Zambetti
Back to Album Page

Santa drives a super stock Dodge
He's got a block heater in that North Pole garage
And when it gets close to Christmas Day
Santa pops the clutch and ditches his sleigh

For years and years, Santa would depend on his sleigh
When one Christmas Eve, he lost a runner coming into L.A.
He crash landed near Colorado Boulevard
Then saw something red parked in that Pasadena yard

Santa drives a super stock Dodge
He's got a block heater in that North Pole garage
And when it gets close to Christmas Day
Santa pops the clutch and ditches his sleigh

He peered in that house, could not believe what he'd seen
'Twas the little old lady herself, trimmin' with Jan and Dean
She came to the door, he told his tale and then she cried
"O, Jolly One, won't you please take my ride!"

Santa drives a super stock Dodge
He's got a block heater in that North Pole garage
And when it gets close to Christmas Day
Santa pops the clutch and ditches his sleigh

He hopped in that Charger on that cold Christmas Eve
Stashed his toys in the back and with smile rolled up his sleeves
And they heard him exclaim, and he headed down Vine
"Merry Christmas to all, and listen to my Hemi whine!"

3. "And A Happy New Year" Written By: Walter Egan
Back to Album Page

Fa la la la la la la
And be of good cheer
Have yourself a merry Christmas
And a happy New Year

Fa la fa la la la la
Fa la fa la la la la
Fa la fa la la la la
Fa la fa la la la la

As the days of December
Bring a close to the year
It’s a time to remember
All those we hold dear

Since we all share the treasure
In so many ways
Let us all come together
On this holiday

Fa la la la la la la
And be of good cheer
Have yourself a merry Christmas
And a happy New Year

With the joy that it gives us
To fill up our heart
In this season of Christmas
We can make a new start

And the peace it provides us
So silent and still
To forget what divides us
And be of good will

Fa la la la la la la
And be of good cheer
Have yourself a merry Christmas
And a happy New Year

Fa la fa la la la la
Fa la fa la la la la
Fa la fa la la la la
Fa la fa la la la la

So make this celebration
Be the best we’ve had yet
As we make this occasion
One that we won’t forget

Fa la la la la la la
And be of good cheer
Have yourself a merry Christmas
And a happy New Year

Fa la la la la la la
And be of good cheer
Have yourself a merry Christmas
And a happy New Year

Fa la la la la la la
Have yourself a merry Christmas
And a happy New Year
Fa la la la la la la
Fa la la la la la la
And a happy New Year

4. "It's Just Not Christmas (Without You)" Written By: John Zambetti
Back to Album Page

Sometimes a heart tends to stray
This one strayed three thousand miles away
It's so hard
This Santa's blue
The Great White Way's glistenin'
To carolers I'm listenin'
But it's just not Christmas without you

Snows grace the skyline all day
Kids tryin' to sleigh with the cabs on Broadway
It's so hard
This Santa's blue
Folks smile as they view
Scenes on Fifth Avenue
But it's just not Christmas without you

They say the Hudson has tides
But I've seen no waves I could take for a ride

This surfer boy's got to head
Back to his girl and the life that they led
It's so hard
This Santa's blue
The sun in your long hair
I've got to get there
And it's just not Christmas without you
No, it's just not Christmas without you

5. "Santa Man" Written By: Walter Egan
Back to Album Page

Santa man?
Santa man!

Well Santa man is comin’ around
Spreadin’ joy from town to town
Oh Santa man, well Santa man
With his long white beard
And his big red nose
Santa man

For all the good little boys and girls
He’s bringing presents all around the world
Yes, Santa man, Santa man
Well Santa man, Santa man

With his bright red suit
And his “Ho Ho Ho”s
Santa man

He only revs his reindeer up on Christmas Eve
He chutes the chimneys while the world’s asleep
Yes, Santa man, Santa man
Well Santa man, Santa man

Oh a cookie and milk
You’d better leave for Santa man

And Christmas day when his work is through
He’s off for two weeks in Malibu
Yes, Santa man, Santa man
Well Santa man, Santa man

Well merry merry
And ho ho ho
Santa man
Santa man…

6. "Malibu Kind of Christmas" Written By: John Zambetti
Back to Album Page

It’s a Malibu kind of Christmas
A So Cal casual kind of cheer
It’s a Malibu kind of Christmas
May you have bitchin’ waves all year

It’s the season we love most
Comfort and joy along the coast
So from the pier at Point Dume*
We’re sending out this Christmas tune

It’s a Malibu kind of Christmas
Jingle bell, jing, jing,
A So Cal casual kind of cheer
Jingle bell, jing, jing,
It’s a Malibu kind of Christmas
Jingle bell, jing, jing
May your breaks be rad all year

Since it’s 90 in the shade
Santa has to park his sleigh
But so each child he will reach
He drives his Porsche right on the beach

‘Cause it’s a Malibu kind of Christmas
Jingle bell, jing, jing
All the wise men here drive Rolls
Jingle bell, jing, jing
It’s a Malibu kind of Christmas
Jingle bell, jing, jing
It’s all bikinis and mink stoles

Jing, jing
Jing, jing
Jing, jing

So if this year you worked hard
He’ll leave a golden Mastercard
But if this year you’ve been lax
He’ll fill your stocking up with wax

‘Cause it’s a Malibu kind of Christmas
Jingle bell, jing, jing
Peace on earth to all of man
Jingle bell, jing, jing
It’s a Malibu kind Christmas
Jingle bell, jing, jing
And may you have a perfect tan

Jingle bell, jing, jing
Jingle bell, jing, jing
Jingle bell, jing, jing
Jingle bell, jing, jing
Jingle bell, jing, jing
Jingle bell, jing, jing
Jingle bell, jing, jing
Jingle bell, jing, jing
Jing, jing…

7. "A Quiet Little Christmas" Written By: Walter Egan
Back to Album Page

All the decorations hanging on the windows
All the Santa Clauses ringing on the streets
And the children smile they know it won’t be long now
’Til the man in red delivers Christmas treats

Surely this is the most joyous of the seasons
It’s a holiday to celebrate, it’s true
But I don’t want any part of any party
I just want a quiet Christmas for two

Christmas, oh Christmas
Just a quiet little Christmas with you

So let’s build a cozy fire in the fireplace
There’s no better present for me that you could do
Then to cuddle warm and snuggle up together
Just a quiet little Christmas for two

Christmas, oh Christmas
All I want is a quiet little Christmas with you

Christmas, oh Christmas
Just a quiet little Christmas with you

8. "When Santa Comes To Santa Cruz" Written By: John Zambetti
Back to Album Page

When Santa comes to Santa Cruz
Everybody's gonna take a ride
When Santa comes to Santa Cruz
They'll be surfin' on a high Yule-tide

He parks his sleigh and all his toys
Down at Stockton Avenue
Then dons his james and some red booties
They'll be no gay apparel for this dude

When Santa comes to Santa Cruz
Everybody's gonna take a ride
When Santa comes to Santa Cruz
They'll be surfin' on a high Yule-tide

He's got a 12-foot Hansen with a triple fin
Painted like a big candy cane
He's gonna paddle out turn around and raise
And take some runs out on Old Steamers' Lane

When Santa comes to Santa Cruz
Everybody's gonna take a ride
When Santa comes to Santa Cruz
They'll be surfin' on a high Yule-tide

And if the surf is down he'll hit the Boardwalk
Impress the honeys with his jolly stride
And when he's had his fill of corndogs
He'll take his reindeer for a 'coaster ride

When Santa comes to Santa Cruz
Everybody's gonna take a ride
When Santa comes to Santa Cruz
They'll be surfin' on a high Yule-tide

10. "Christmastide" Written By: Walter Egan
Back to Album Page

At the malls
Merchants deck the halls
With mistletoe and wreathes

In L.A.
Christmas Holiday
Climate controlled by Freon

Christmastide
California style
Sunshine and top-down weather

Christmastide
Grab your board and ride
Nights on the beach together

In the East
Winter like a beast
They say that it’s been snowing

West Coast waves
Warm and sunny days
With Santa Ana’s glowing*

Christmastide
California style
Sunshine and top-down weather

Christmastide
Grab your board and ride
Nights on the beach together

Girls in thongs
Singing Yuletide songs
By a roaring fire

Surfer boys
With their Christmas toys
What else could we desire?

Christmastide
California style
Sunshine and top-down weather

Christmastide
Grab your board and ride
Nights on the beach together

Christmastide
California style
Sunshine and top-down weather

Christmastide
Grab your board and ride
Nights on the beach together

Christmastide
Aaah
Christmastide
Aaah…

11. "Rudy" Written By: Walter Egan
Back to Album Page

Rudy the hodad surf dude
Had a gnarly ten foot board
Man if you ever saw it
You’d be laughing ‘til you’re sore

All of the South Bay surfers
Used to laugh and call him lame
They never let dude Rudy
Hang with any surfer babe

Then one smoky Xmas Eve
Santa lost his sleigh
Rudy waxed his ten foot stick
And he lent it to Saint Nick

Then every surfer dug him
And they shouted righteously
Rudy, you hodad surf dude
You performed most awesomely
Hey!

Then one smoky Xmas Eve
Santa lost his sleigh
Rudy waxed his ten foot stick
And he lent it to Saint Nick

Then every surfer dug him
And they shouted righteously
Rudy, you hodad surf dude
You performed most awesomely
Rudy, you hodad surf dude
You performed most awesomely!

12. "Our Christmas Wish For You" Written By: John Zambetti
Back to Album Page

May your board never be dinged
May your tan never peel, of this I sing
May a great white never turn you into stew
Let this be our Christmas wish for you

May your jams stay put when you wipe out
May your little surfer girl not get too stout
On your woody may not the termites chew
Let this be our Christmas wish for you

If you wake up from your sleep on Christmas morning
And find your stocking full of sand
Just pop this platter on your turntable
For the warmth of our sincerity in your hand

May your bullfrog always be in reach
May you not lose your car keys on the beach
May your record contract be renewed
Let this be our Christmas wish for you

May your skeg not take out your teeth
May you not eat the berries on your wreath
When you curl may your jams not fill with sand
And may peace reign on earth to all of man

And remember the Malibooz do rule
May you have yourself a real cool yule

Merry Christmas everybody
Merry Christmas everybody
Merry Christmas everybody
Merry Christmas everybody
Merry Christmas everybody
Merry Christmas everybody
Merry Christmas everybody

13. "Seashells and Coral" Written By: John Zambetti
Back to Album Page

Seashells and coral upon my Christmas tree
A gold glittered starfish on top for all to see
Our Christmas cactus is finally in bloom
Palm fronds with ribbons are hung in every room

It's Christmas Day in Californ-i-ay
The sun glowin' like a Christmas ball
There's a swell up at Dume and soon the surfer moon
Will bid a Merry Christmas to us all

Bright painted driftwood upon the mantelpiece
A conch full of berries, it's Christmas at the beach
Twinkle lights on my woodie, and plates of Christmas goodies
The smell of euchylyptus on the fire
Friends get together, and talk of back East weather
And sing the songs that us will all inspire

It's Christmas Day in Californ-i-ay
The sun glowin' like a Christmas ball
There's a swell up at Dume and soon the surfer moon
Will bid a Merry Christmas to us all

14. "Christmas Wrap" Written By: Walter Egan
Back to Album Page

Hi, this is Walt
Hi, I’m John
We’re the Malibooz

Every year, at this time in our house
We like to remember these words
Thank you

It was the night before Christmas
When we paddled out
But the cold sea was quiet
The surf was in doubt

In our wetsuits, we hung
Like some ducks at low tide
With visions of bone-crushing waves
We could ride

And the hours crept by
‘Til it felt like a year
As we waited and waited
For waves to appear

Then from out of the West
There was heard a great shout
And a voice as loud as thunder
Came bellowing out

As we turned on our boards
Its was awesome to see
Crazy old Santa Claus
Out there at sea

On Gidget! On Moon Doggy!
On Dean and on Jan!
These were the words of that kook
Santa Man

That saint on a sleigh
Hanging ten off the nose
On the crest of a 40 foot wave
He was posed

Then my buddies and me
Got our boards shreddin’ fast
And we joined Santa Claus
On that mountain of glass

We rode that tsunami
All over the world
Dropping off toys
To the good boys and girls

On the way back to L.A.
Old Santa did muse
“Is it so?
Are you really the famed Malibooz?”

“Yes it’s true,” we replied
And his smile we did savor
Then he said
“Do you think you could do me a favor?

See, I need some new sounds
I can play on my way
While delivering holiday gifts
In my sleigh

So now boys, don’t you dawdle
But do it for me
Cut me a new
Christmas surfin’ LP

Write some new carols
And make sure they’re cool
Why don’t you call the thing
“Malibooz Yule”

Then Santa Kahuna
Was off with a shout
Merry Christmas to all
May you never wipe out!

Merry Christmas everybody!
Yeah, merry Christmas guys.
Have a bitchin’ year.
